This Emerald Swallowtail was definitely posing for the camera! I love the splash of irridescent green on his wings. When the wings are closed however, you can't see any green at all - it's so cool!

This photo - along with the others - bring back such fond childhood memories. Some sad ones too. One of my favorite movies is a less-than-popular title that most have no heard of : Girl of the Limberlost. And she collected butterflies. I did too, and I was always sad to see one that was dead but loved having them. I donated my collection to my mom's pre-school class, for her science area, and one of the kids opened the case and tore all the wings off.
I realize you don't need to know any of this. But at some point, I intend to purchase a print of each...
